Health Shield is an award-winning health and wellbeing provider and is seeking a Sales Director to help it achieve its exciting new strategy, including expanding its product range and developing new sales channels.

The Director of Sales will be responsible for the delivery of strategic, financial and operational performance within the Sales and Retention teams.

They will lead, manage and develop the Sales & Retention teams whilst continually refining and improving the sales strategy & process and understanding of the competitor market.  This will include overall responsibility for developing key growth sales strategies, tactics and action plans to ensure business objectives and financial targets are achieved, whilst raising the company and product profile.

They will drive new business and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships with the overall aim of increasing and retaining our core cash plan sales but also expanding into new wellbeing markets.

The Sales Director will be a critical member of our senior management team and will have an intrinsic part to play in developing and executing the company’s expansion and growth plans.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Create and implement strategic sales and retention plans that successfully achieve Health Shield’s business goals
  • Responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the Sales and Retention team and day to day management, coaching and development of all direct reports
  • Set revenue and value-based targets for the Sales and Retention team along with service level KPI’s
  • Use available data to implement an effective sales pipeline and lead tracking process
  • Work with all relevant teams to develop and maintain positive relationships with key clients and brokers
  • Work closely with the Marketing department to implement new business initiatives and develop existing and new products to meet market needs
  • Analyse and understand the market, customers, competitors and new business opportunities in order that the business can utilise this to adapt/enhance its product or service
  • Report on sales & retention performance to the Board and fellow Directors
  • Attend and present at conferences and events as required to promote the company products and services
  • Work with the Chief Financial Officer to develop an operating budget for the Sales & Retention function that meets business goals
  • Enhance the capability of the Sales and Retention team by ensuring the organisation has an effective sales training programme
  • Implementing best practice in sales techniques throughout the Sales and retention department
  • Work with fellow Directors to implement overall strategic plans across the Society and align resources to business priorities
  • Provide accurate short, medium- and long-term forecasts as necessary to support business plans and decisions
  • Overall responsibility for the Sales and Retention departmental budget
  • Work in partnership with relevant department to ensure transparency of Sales strategy and overall product offering
  • To create a high performing culture within the Sales and Retention team through the effective recruitment, selection, development and engagement of existing and future talent
  • To consistently role model the company values and behaviours and encourage others to do the same

Regulatory Requirements

This is considered to be a regulated role under the Senior Managers Regime (“SMR”) and therefore the successful individual will require regulatory pre-approval (which is anticipated to be for the FCA controlled function SMF18 Other Overall Responsibility in the table of FCA-designated senior management functions, described more fully in SUP 10C.7.1R)

Education, Skill and Knowledge Required

  • Previous experience working as a Sales Director or in senior sales role
  • Proven ability to inspire, motivate and effectively lead a team
  • Proven track record of achieving sales growth and delivery of results to business plans
  • Knowledge of the health cash plan market and wider health and protection market would be advantageous
  • Proven leadership and ability to positively influence at all levels
  • Problem solver and solution focussed
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Ability to analyse and interpret sales data
  • Ability to develop and manage internal and external customer relationships
  • Able to develop, execute and evaluate the business sales strategy and evaluate success
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbal with the ability to present strategic goals and results effectively
  • Knowledge and experience of the relevant regulatory framework when required
  • Proven experience / ability to leverage best value of using sales platforms ideally Sales Force?
  • Effective budget management and overall responsibility for the sales & marketing budget
  • Ideally educated to Degree level or equivalent

Work arrangements: Permanent, full time (Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week)
