Seven of the UK’s leading health cash plan providers came together last week to indulge in a bit of friendly rivalry – all in the name of a good cause.
On 16 September, Health Shield, Westfield Health, Engage Mutual, Simplyhealth, BHSF, Medicash and Hospital Saturday Fund all participated in a cash plan provider golf day.
The event took place at the Forest of Arden golf course, and raised £3,500 for Breast Cancer Care – a charity chosen by Westfield Health. Each provider was asked to nominate a good cause to play for, with the Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries’ (AMII) chairman, Wayne Pontin, picking the lucky charity’s name out of a hat at the organisation’s recent annual conference.
The providers hope to make the golf day an annual event. This year’s contest was won by BHSF, with Simplyhealth runners up and Health Shield coming in third.
Dave Willetts, head of business development at Health Shield, said: “The event was fantastic and a great success – so much so that we hope to hold another golf day next year when we’re able to put our friendly rivalry to good use, all in the name of charity!”
The golf day is the latest in a series of fundraising activities that Health Shield has participated in over the last 12 months. Earlier this year, the Health Shield team parodied the popular ‘Harlem Shake’ music video, donating over £1,000 for Comic Relief. Six teams of employees also recently completed a gruelling triathlon, and raised £5,000 for Beating Bowel Cancer UK, on top of raising over £1,500 for Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

We were delighted that we had the opportunity to bring the market together in aid of it, as at Health Shield, we are committed to investing in the community, and are so pleased to be able to raise much-needed funds for a worthy cause.”
