Crewe-based health cash plan provider Health Shield has announced its rise to the top third of The Sunday Times 100 Best Not-For-Profit Companies to Work For – a jump of 10 places for the growing company in comparison to last year.
Health Shield moved up to position 29 in this year’s prestigious nationwide league: an annual survey that relies solely on the views of employees in determining the rankings.
As a Friendly Society, Health Shield exists for the benefit of its members (employees and customers), as opposed to shareholders. According to The Sunday Times’ Best 100 Companies’ report it is this culture of shared values and openness that ensured the organisation not only stayed on the list when new entrants were displacing others, but also secured its rise up the rankings.
On Health Shield, the report states: “People here feel a strong sense of family in their teams, an 85% positive score, fourth in this factor among small not-for-profits in our survey, and find their colleagues fun to work with (87%, sixth)”.
This accolade comes at a busy time for Health Shield, having recently announced the purchase of Prevent plc – a specialist in workplace health screening. The provider has also just launched a raft of new and improved health benefits for both existing clients and new.
Health Shield Chief Executive, Jonathan Burton commented: “We’re aiming for growth within the employer health and wellbeing market and we can only achieve that with a happy and fully-engaged team that feels excited about our plans for the future. We try to recruit locally as much as possible so when our staff are happy it sends a positive message to the region too.
“Being recognised by The Sunday Times as a great place to work is therefore something that I take great pride in. To achieve such a respected accreditation for the fifth year running is a fantastic achievement and is testament to our commitment to trying to create an inclusive culture.”
